Keeping watch over Plymouth Sound & Whitsand Bay

NCI Rame Head is a volunteer National Coastwatch lookout on the Rame Peninsula, keeping a visual and radio watch over Plymouth Sound approaches, Whitsand Bay, and the busy coastal waters off south-east Cornwall.

Watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast — spotting distress flares, overturned craft, and people in difficulty that technology alone can miss — then alerting HM Coastguard so the right rescue assets can respond.

Station opened May 1998 (official opening 2 May 1999). Recipient of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
